Sweet, sweet baby . . .

Little Alaina is now 8 months old, but I was just reminiscing about the day I met her back in January.  She was only 18 days old.  Such a sweet baby, she only fussed because we were moving her around trying to position her just right.  Her sister clearly loves her and serves in her “big sister” role very well.

She slept most of the time, but woke up long enough to get a few shots like this.

Then it’s back to sleep again.

I almost didn’t get the basket out, but at last minute decided to take a little extra time for that.  I’m glad we did, because I love these shots.

Alaina and her mom were referred to me by a mutual friend and I’m so glad to have made the connection.  It was so great to get to know this sweet family.  I’m looking forward to photographing Alaina and her sister again sometime in the future.

The Brunette and the Redhead

Percy Warner Park was the perfect backdrop for these sisters in their pretty dresses.  And we photographed Maddie and Margot just in time.  The session took place on a Saturday, and the following Wednesday Margot (the little one) fell off a stool and broke her arm.  Lucky for her she got to wear a fun pink cast for six weeks.

It always intrigues me when siblings have such different features, like the straight brown hair vs. the curly red hair. It just goes to show that even with the same parents, God makes us each in our own special way.

The “get-away.”  I love it when 2-year-olds decide they have better things to do than hang out with me and have their picture taken.  And she wasn’t going to let that dress hold her back.

Maddie and Margot’s mom is in the mom’s group that I am part of at her church.  We’re not in the same discussion group, though, so we haven’t been able to spend much time together during our Monday morning meeting time.

I’m so glad I was able to spend some time with you and your family, Emily. It was great to meet them and get to know you better.  I would love to photograph your family again in the future.

Ohio Cousins

Not cousins to each other, but cousins of mine.  Mark is my 1st cousin (our dads were brothers) and I photograph his family every year in July when I go to Ohio for our family reunion.  We did this session in the morning right before we left to drive home.  We found this great spot behind a school just down the road from their house.  The town they live in is basically one road long, surrounded by farmland.  I did some driving around the last time I was there and found some fun new spots for photo sessions, so I’m looking forward to future years of photographing the family.

Amos was 5 at the time this session took place and was a few weeks away from starting kindergarten.  He was named after his great-great-grandfather, which would be my (and his dad’s) great grandfather.

I just want to mention the chair being used in these images.  We borrowed the chair from Mark’s parent’s house.  It turns out that the chair belonged to our grandparents.  It was one of the green kitchen chairs that grandpa and grandma used all the years that I was growing up.  In fact, they probably owned that table and set of chairs for their entire married life.  I would never have recognized it since my aunt had it refinished.

Josiah, or Jo, was 3 in these images and was quite sad when his brother left him to start school.  In case anyone was wondering, Mark had really blonde hair when he was little.

I love Jo’s smile and how his nose kinda wrinkles up.  And I love little boys in overalls.

I’m sure they will love these yearly photos together when they get older.

Thanks, Mark and Jen, for letting my family invade your home every year and feeding us while we are there.  And thanks for letting me be your personal photographer.  I’m already thinking about your session for next year.
